Mike redid his character as a barbarian. Dan joining us for the first time, hasn’t played except briefly in early 80s. Dan character joins up: met these guys at the roundabout…heard about the Chapel for confession…going to confess. We’ll have him join right after the fight. His character is Virgil…I have his sheet on my phone, also the other guys. Mike confirms that they delivered a harpy body to Gregor. Merrick comes with them to Ulm’s monument. Virgil would get a free healing potion from Chambers at the beginning of the game. The go to Ulm’s monument. Brief description of the square. Foyer…it looks abandoned. they are not 100% sure about Ulm’s monument except that it’s been mentioned a few times. Fayne history check, roll a 12 on knowing what Ulm is…just learns: Ulm started the trading house that introduced both whaling and opium to Hollin. Virgil rolls a 14 lockpick. The see the hole the dirt, the skulls and bones. Decide to explore the cathedral level first. They loot Ulm’s monument. TODO(strelow): what is on Ulm? E: virgil finds a chapel of ajana. Fayne prays at F .. gradkas chapel…he gets Bless for an hour. Virgil also prays. What is his idea of what the high god would be? Omonisicnet, omnipresent, all knowing, being androgoynus he’s a mystery and the cosmos personified…can bestow any blessing or curse. Inside doesn’t really believe, but probably not a bad idea (same idea that he was going to do a sligent confession.) So a skeptic…but Fayne was blessed, so fool the god but inwardly rolling his eyes. But does realize the mytos of Ajana…respect but dont’ belev. He gets Sheidls for 24 hours, and also Sanctuary. Kiltak is instea dplaing with skulls. He investigates D, the chapel of Ulm. In D he learns: The young Ulm was a golden god of a harpooner, and he landed his harpoon Hosingen in the primordial bull whale Huhner. But Ulm couldn’t finish Huhner off, and Hosingen is still in Huhner’s side, waiting to be recovered by an even greater harpooner who can bring the immortal whale down. Now the go down the ladder. They see the salt floor and the bones and skulls. Fayne 16 history…they relocated full cemeteries to the salt mine here. They go to the stair down to I. They hear metal on metal clinking. Virgil Stealtily goes down to check what’s happening. He sees the four workers and the iron, but fails nature check to know it’s meteoric iron. Kiltak - should they talk to the miners? Fayne also suggests surprise and attack. V. says what if they wait until they take a break…then they could pull the overlord aside instead of doing an overt thing. Dennis metagames and says they 4 workers all seem sinister. Fayne: do we want to surprise attack, or make a noise to bring them up into the ladder. V realy likes that idea. Kiltake thinks the overseer is the big issue, the other three. Fayne wants to soak the ladder in oil. Kiltake says he could go down and shoot the overseer with the longbow. V wants to interrogate them. K. doesn’t think the first shot wouldn’t kill him so they could also interrogate. Kiltak shoots at the overseer: rolls 21. 8 damage…then he runs back up the stair and Fayne spills oil on the stair. Virgil readies an action to light the tunnel oil when they enter. Elgis rolls 7 damage for all of them. they kill the three, but nonfatal damage the overseer. They good cop bad cop the guy…kiltak holds his sword over his eye. Only 7 though, even with the working togher intiination persuasion, and even rerolling heroic effort. Kiltake stabs him in the face. The loot but they only have their mundane tools. They go down to look at the pitted iron. Kiltak takes enough “ore” to make a great sword out of it; elgis will do the same to make a scimitar or whatever. They now ask gaain why they’re here…to look for Laurel. they think or suspect she’s a fairy. They go west to A. Forge. They roll nature again…all 3 fail. We don’t discuss anything else here. They go to B. Beatrice office. Egis investigate room and mail for Penacne stone clues. Elgis finds encoded letter #1 in pigeonhole mail sorter. Virgil finds second encoded letter #2 in desk drawer. They go to C, spell lab. they get the jade circlet. They get all the encoded and encrypted spells. Elgis takes the disk and one of encrypted letters. Virgil rolls INT to understand how to decode; he rolls 1 on the die with guidance; but when uses his heroic effort to roll again. He rolls 16 on the die + 1 from the guidance. They learn from it that if they have the plaintext for one of the encrypted texts, you have everyitngn they need to learn the cypher word. Fayne asks if they can just roll to decode or if they as players; I say they can just roll. So…if they can find the cyber word, will that give them information about Laurel. Dennis: if they can’t or don’t want to do this, they might be able to find someone in the city. Kiltak rolls a 12…it’s ok but they probably need more help. Gregor points them to teh Quaternion Socient in Mornerstar observagory. They also want to sell the circlet and also find a blacksmith. Elgis question for Gregor: when the party found the ore nothing struck them but they want to forge it…can he tell them about the ore. Gregor tells them that the iron is metallic and can be cold-forged. He doesn’t know or tell them that DC 25 cold-forged iron is deadly to fairies. They want to sell the circlet and then find a blacksmith. Virgil tries to sell the circlet at the half-penny tavern. They meet Rowan. Rowan agrees to fence the item for them; she can give them the 1500 gp the next day. They long rest. Virgil gives them 200 each, but keeps 1500 - (3 * 200). Elgis rolls 19 history; he knows that blacksmiths are dubious devil-ish people. Kazola works for Vesper Cotton, she’ll do it for you. The party discusses if they can affort Kazola, and if they may need to steal back from her to afford her services. “I’m not going to fail,” says the man with the rejected sticker. GS and Halberd? They have the ore. Do they want +1? Any magic probably. She tells them the book cost cut in half because they have the material. So, 250 gp for greatsword, 100 for halberd. Kazola Isnights them right away,j interogates them about where they got it from. She tells them that cold forged iron is fairy-slaying weapon. They realize they saw Ash go down from the other dagger. They think Kazola has an affinity for fairies. Kazola ask for a day to think through the moral implications, if she’s willing to help them. Elgis reiterates that they’re not going to kill fairies. Virgil - why is she weirded out about fairies. the agree to come back later. -- Annie answers the door at the observatory. They say they want help breaking a code. They give her the disk and the coded and unencoded letter. I give them the decoded letter about giving Laurel to Ishild first. They say they think Laurel is a fairy, maybe the changlines are her children. Elgis: thinks Ishild is running tests on killing fairies, he wants to test on Laurel and/or hte children. I give them the second letter, about the stone powering the spell. Elgis does 15 History and knows that when Hollinders say “the Cathedral” they mean the Cathedral of Gradsk ain Lofton. I give them the decoded Fey Extinction Event. Kiltak says someone is trying the fairies; instead of having the weapons made…starging to pice it together; harpies told us sometimes fairies will use humans to raise children; these children are bing raised by humans and somebody has stolen the babies to see if they can use this stone to kill the firaies. If it works, they’re oing to woipe out all the fairies. So, if we stop this from happening, we can get goodwill from the fairies, and they’ll let us make these weapons. Elgis wants to roll religion on Gradska - rolls a 20…he gets: DC 10 History Hollin’s sailors say that thousands of years ago, a harpy’s siren song lured the ancient warship She-Wolf onto the rocks off Anhault, sinking her. Stranded, the captain Gradska and his crew established the town of Lofton, which is now Hollin’s abandoned old town. Sailors say that on quiet nights in Hollin, you can still hear harpies singing, high in the cliffs above Lofton. DC 20 Nature Harpies’ songs are powerful spells. They think the harpies are trying to kill the fairies, and that Ishild is a harpy. The go back to Kazola and ask if the iron also kills other fey (e.g., harpies), or just fairies. The already shared their quest with Kazola, they can ask her more. Could Kazola make them a weapon to help in their question? Mike: do humans raising fairies know they’re fairies? Dennis/Kazola: no, it’s a cuckoo situation. Mike: so explain to Kazola that they’re actually protecting fairies. Virgil: Are we really vested in helping fairies. Kiltek: when you’re killing kids and wiping out an entire people, that’s pretty shady. Kiltak: we’re just trying to get Laurel? Kiltak: someone is testing Fey Extrinction on fairies. Kiltak and Fayne: are just interesting in getting +1, not necessarily pitted fairy-killing iron. Kazola agrees. Fayne: commissions for Kazola’s halberd. Kiltak: commissions for Kazola’s great sword. Virgil wants to pick up Kazola. where they might want to do for next: Cathedral in Lofton - that’s where the penance stone would be Deliver Laurel to Ishild not actionable black cabaret They’re down to go there Dennis: probably won’t fill the whole adventure…what else…sounds like the cliffs luna and flora shaw Sailors say that on quiet nights in Hollin, you can still hear harpies singing, high in the cliffs above Lofton. So, they’ll do the black cabaret and the cliffs
